the crisp, refreshing damp among the sedge
the timeless hush of morning's primal lull
the breakfasting of ducks at water's edge
the pelican, the heron, and the gull
the daylight's diamond glitter on the lake
the dewy blanket draped across a field
the cluck and chirp of creatures fresh awake
the blushing beauty everywhere revealed
the rush and flutter of the startled loon
the tartan prairie's patchwork coloring
the bright and blinking eyelet of the moon
the brushstroke sweep of heaven's clouded wing
in quick and quaint and quiet things I see,
my God displays His permanence to me.

of a cool August morning
